Saturday 8th August
I did one of my weekly shops to a certain supermarket (Lidl) and stocked up with the goods I find terrific value and quality. I also bought some pink roses, two bunches for £4.00 – a no brainer really – this is them 24 hours later.
Will let you know how long they last so watch this space. I am researching food ideas for another section of this website and I came across a recipe – Bon Appetit: Roasted Grapes Pavlova Bites. I made it this morning and everyone raved about it. It’s poached grapes in honey and to round it off sprinkle some black pepper on top.
It went down a treat with the guests who put it with their cereal, fruit and yogurt. This is good to do if you have grapes and they are past their best. I also think it would work in the place of quince jelly with cheese. When I tried it for the first time and bit into the grape at 8am it was like a burst of warm wine on the pallet, which made me giggle!
I am doing a Sunday dinner tomorrow, one of my son’s has a friend over from the USA, he has asked for me to do something traditional so I have planned a menu as follows:
Smoked salmon with bread, lemon and/or homemade Mustard & Dill Sauce
Roast chicken with all the trimmings, i.e. sausages, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes and various vegetables
For desert I am doing homemade clotted cream ice cream with wild blueberries and blackcurrant sauce and gooey meringues!
Oh and here is the Clotted Cream Ice Cream recipe… (LINK to EDS – Article)
